Slovenia's Track & Field Star Alenka Bikar Retires

One of Slovenia's most successful female track athletes, Alenka Bikar, on Wednesday officially ended her successful career. The 34-year-old athlete is most famous for her second place at the 2000 European Athletics Indoor Championship in Belgium's Ghent in the 200m event.
Bikar bid farewell at a ceremony in Ljubljana, which was also attended by her former team mate Brigita Bukovec, thanking her parents for all the good in her life and her coaches Luka Drasler and Jure Kastelic for developing her talent. "I was very lucky to have Bukovec already achieving great results at the beginning of my career. I think I haven't told her how much her friendship on and off the tracks meant to me," said Bikar.
Bikar, who made 50 appearances for the Slovenian track and field team, was chosen Slovenia's best athlete by the country's sports journalists in 2001 and is the holder of Slovenia's 200 metre indoor national best (23.16 s) and outdoor 300 metre record (37.48 s). Her career highlights also include 5th place in the 200m event at the 2001 World Championship in Edmonton and 13th place in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta in the same event.
Bikar put her career on hold in 2006 after she got pregnant and gave birth to a baby girl. She said then she had planned to continue with her career and take part in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. She returned to the tracks in June 2007 and ran her first 100m event after the break in 11.99. Her best result this season was 11.59 in Banska Bystrica in what was her last appearance for the Slovenian track and field team, as she failed to reach the norm for the Beijing Olympics.
"I made a lot of appearances this year, but this wasn't enough for the Olympics, and I had plenty of time in August and September to think about future. The decision to retire was a tough one as running became inseparable part of my life," she said at the retirement ceremony.

Alenka Bikar (born 7 January 1974) is a Slovenian sprinter who specializes in the 200 metres. She currently is in possession of the most incredible ass that you could ever imagine. Seriously, it's is off the chain. Bodankadonk. Put your mug on it, saddle up, and ride. I'm getting worked up just thinking about it. In 2006 she gave birth to a baby girl.
